Nepal's mountains have always been full of strong women.
In Himalayan communities, women are raising families, working on farms, running businesses, managing homes and contributing to everyday village life. Their work may not always be the first thing a traveller notices when looking at the mountains, but once you begin paying attention, it is difficult not to see their strength.
For Himalayan Trek Ventures, this is personal.
We are a woman-led trekking company in Nepal, and we want our growth to help create a future where more women feel that there is a place for them in trekking, travel and adventure.
Where This Part of Our Story Began
My own connection with this idea became stronger when I started experiencing Nepal beyond Kathmandu.
During my journey into the mountains, I began noticing how much responsibility women carried in everyday life.
Behind the beautiful landscapes were women working, caring for families, helping businesses operate and keeping daily life moving in environments that can be physically demanding.
It stayed with me.
When Himalayan Trek Ventures began taking shape, I knew I wanted women to have a meaningful place in the company's future.
Not because it sounds good in marketing.
Because it is something I genuinely want HTV to grow into.
The Mountains Are for Women Too
Adventure has sometimes been presented as something requiring extraordinary toughness or confidence.
But every experienced trekker once stood at the beginning of their first trail.
We want more women to feel comfortable considering trekking in Nepal, whether they are travelling with friends, joining a group, travelling privately or exploring the possibility of a solo journey.
You do not need to prove that you belong in the mountains.
You need good preparation, realistic expectations, appropriate support and the willingness to begin.
Understanding Female Travellers
Women can also have practical questions about trekking that are sometimes overlooked.
What are toilet facilities like in remote areas? What should I pack for my period? How does room sharing work? What should I wear around villages and monasteries? Can I request a female guide when one is available? What should a solo female traveller know before trekking in Nepal?
These are normal questions.
We want women travelling with HTV to feel comfortable asking them without embarrassment.
Being supportive of women travellers means more than putting a photograph of a female trekker on a website. It means listening to what women actually need before and during a journey.
More Women Behind the Journey
Our vision isn't limited to the women who book a trek.
As Himalayan Trek Ventures grows, we would also like to see more opportunities for women within Nepal's adventure tourism industry.
That can include trekking and guiding roles as well as operations, hospitality, trip planning, leadership and other parts of tourism.
We are still a young company, so we won't claim to have created opportunities that do not yet exist.
Instead, we want to build toward them.
As real women become part of the HTV team, this page should eventually tell their stories in their own voices.
Supporting Women Without Speaking for Them
Women's lives and opportunities are different across Nepal.
We don't want to assume that we know what every woman or community needs simply because HTV is woman-led.
As our Mountain Fund develops, we hope to explore meaningful opportunities connected with women and girls where local needs, partnerships and our resources make that genuinely useful.
The important part is listening first.
Real empowerment should be more important than creating a good marketing campaign around the word.
A Different Kind of Footprint
For me, success would not only mean seeing more travellers choose Himalayan Trek Ventures.
It would also mean watching the company create space for other women as it grows.
Perhaps that means a woman taking her first Himalayan trek.
Perhaps one day it means another woman beginning a career in adventure tourism.
Perhaps it simply means a female traveller arriving in Nepal alone and feeling that there is someone here who understands some of the questions she was nervous to ask.
Those may seem like small things.
But every journey begins somewhere.
Himalayan Trek Ventures is still at the beginning of ours.
And as we grow, we want more women to be part of where that journey leads.
The mountains do not belong to one gender. Adventure doesn't either.
