Your Safety Is Our Priority – Be Prepared

Himalayan Trek Ventures believes that every trek into the Himalayas should be an enjoyable, inspirational experience. While we will offer our expert skills and emergency support on every trek we offer, high-altitude treks are unpredictable and require you to have comprehensive travel insurance as part of your booking conditions.

When Trekking Insurance is Important

Trekking in Nepal is often off the grid in remote alpine landscapes with unpredictable weather and in high, far from immediate medical assistance. Even experienced trekkers can experience altitude sickness or serious injuries needing immediate attention or evacuation.

With that being said, every traveler will need coverage with a valid travel insurance policy that covers your trekking risk as follows:

Required Coverage To Include:

Emergency medical treatment – medical care for illnesses and injuries while trekking in remote areas.

Emergency helicopter evacuation – Helicopter evacuations are often the only option for rescue in most Himalayan areas.

High-altitude trekking in Asia – make sure your policy covers at least to 5.500 metres when we’re flying and trekking towards Everest Base Camp & Three Passes (up to 5,550m), Annapurna Circuit/Thorong La (5,416m), and Manaslu Circuit (5,160m).

Cancellation, interruption or delay coverage — this is for when your trip is interrupted because of weather, sickness, or an unexpected emergency.

Accidental injury & personal liability — protects you from incurred legal or medical expenses due to unexpected issues.

Loss, damage, or theft of luggage, trekking gear, personal equipment, and electronics.

Things to Keep in Mind Before You Buy

Some standard travel insurance will not provide any helicopter evacuation coverage, or might limit coverage based on some altitude limits, so read the fine print.

Some insurers want you to add on for “adventure sports” or “mountaineering/trekking.”

If you are trekking in a remote area or restricted area, i.e., Manaslu, Dolpo, Kanchenjunga, check for regional coverage limits.

Make sure to keep a digital and physical copy of your policy with emergency contact numbers for your insurer in case of emergencies.

 Need assistance picking a policy?

We get that travel insurance terms can be tricky for some folks. As such, our team is happy to provide advice on recommended insurance providers, especially those with known helicopter evacuation and high altitude trekking claims and/or coverage.

We do not sell insurance directly, nor are we affiliated with the insurers, but we can help you assess if your proposed policy meets the necessary standards for your trek.

✅ Note to guests:

No one will be allowed to participate in high altitude treks operated by Himalayan Trek Ventures without valid insurance that meets the above requirements. This not only ensures your protection but also allows for swift coordination with the rescue service and medical providers in an emergency.
